CAP Election Procedures

February 2 First notification of elections to district members
• Notification by [listserv] email to district members. Notification will include the election timetable plus qualifications, requirements, and restrictions for candidacy.
• Announcement made in eWeek of upcoming elections.
• State March 2 as filing deadline.February 16 Second notification to members of upcoming election
• Notification again by [listserv] email to district members and reminder to file by March 2 deadline.March 2
• Nomination petitions MUST be in AHR office at close of business.
• AHR certifies nomination petitions.March 3
• All candidates posted by district on CAP website.
• Candidates receive notification of certification of petitions.Last full week in March (March 23-27)
• AHR conducts elections via secured website.
• AHR sends a note to all eligible voters.
• Voting occurs between 8am Monday and concludes 5pm on Friday.
• Voting occurs no matter how many candidates run in district for election to the Council.Friday following Close of Elections
• AHR contacts CAP with election results.
• CAP notifies candidates of election outcome.
Candidate with the most votes shall be elected. A plurality of votes cast shall be all that is necessary to determine the outcome of the election.Week following close of Elections
• CAP webmaster posts newly elected representatives’ names on website.
• Webmaster uses AP [listserv] email lists to notify constituents of election outcome.First Thursday in June
• New CAP district representatives take office.
